TRADITIONS AND CELEBRATIONS IN SEPTEMBER

The September Equinox… also known as the Autumn Equinox… was and is celebrated by many cultures 'round the world… as a harvest festival.

This celebration has been linked to many world myths and superstitions in history. In China the mid-Autumn festival… also known as the moon festival… is celebrated around the time of the September Equinox. This celebration dates back more than 3000 years and occurs at the time of the full moon. It celebrates the abundance of the summer's harvest, where moon cakes - filled with lotus, sesame seeds, duck eggs, or dried fruit - are made and eaten. This is also a time when family… both near and far… get together to visit and feast. Streets are decorated with lanterns… incense is burned… and fire dragon dances takes place.
